We raise a cross of Large Black and Gloucestershire Old Spots hogs. A heritage breed noted for their docile nature, strong foraging instincts, and excellent flavor. The pork from these breeds is listed as an endangered food in The Ark of Taste.
Our hogs are fed a healthy diet of whey (a byproduct of cheese making, collected from Black Sheep Creamery in Chehalis, WA), fruits and vegetables from local farms, and a small amount of supplemental organic grain. They have free range on lush pasture when the soil is dry, and mud-free shelter when it rains.
No growth hormones or antibiotics are used.
Whole shares are available for $6.50 per pound of hanging weight and half shares are available for $7 per pound of hanging weight. Expected hanging weight is between 90 and 120 pounds for a half share or between 180 and 240 pounds for a whole share.
We expect to harvest around the middle of October.
This year we will be working with Wynoochee Valley Meats in Montesano, for the cut and wrap.
